Welcome to the Garden Club of Kitchener Waterloo
Our Goal:
To encourage an active interest in all subjects pertaining to the cultivation and use of flowers and plants. Our Roots: The Garden Club of Kitchener - Waterloo is a non Profit Group formed by 12 members in 1957. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in 2007 with over 100 active, honorary and life members. The Kitchener - Waterloo chapter is one of the member clubs that form the Garden Clubs of Ontario. Our home base is our own portable classroom-studio on the University of Waterloo grounds where small group meetings are held and courses, seminars and workshops are given relating to Floral Design and Horticultural topics. Our Growth: Since 1967 we have held bi-annual Flower Shows, open to the public, to highlight our interests and skills in floral design and horticulture. Recent shows have been held at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo, Renison University College in Waterloo and the Pavilion at Victoria Park in Kitchener. Our Activities: Our members enjoy other Garden Club shows such as "Canada Blooms", the Royal Botanical Gardens, and tours of public and private gardens in Southern Ontario. Our Plant Sales: Every year in May, on the Saturday before Mother's Day, a plant sale is held by the members of the Garden Club with plants donated from their gardens. Civic and Conservation: Betty's Garden - An entrance garden was established in 1994 at KidsAbility in Waterloo and dedicated in 1996 in memory of Past President Betty Stuart. Betty's Garden has grown as a living tribute to be enjoyed by all throughout the years. This garden receives constant tender, loving maintenance from our members. Our Meetings: We meet on the third Monday of each month from September to June. If the third Monday happens to fall on a holiday the following Monday is used to meet. Meeting Times: 1:15 pm Meeting Location: Albert McCormick Arena in Waterloo. AGM Date: Third Monday in June Club Shows: Mini Shows are held usually twice a year and a Club Show is held every other year alternating between Spring and Fall. Email us for more information.
