An introduction to our club, from the club president.
Georgian Bay Garden Club members are a hard-working, community-minded group. Our community outreach projects include maintaining the large Garden-on-the-Bay (on the waterfront beside the Bayshore Community Centre), the Inglis Falls garden (at a popular conservation area on the Niagara Escarpment) and large planters outside the Owen Sound Public Library and Tom Thomson Art Gallery.
The Club also gives an annual grant toward the floral displays in downtown Owen Sound, and offers bursaries to post-secondary landscape design & horticulture students. Members also place weekly floral designs inside the Public Library. Funds for these projects are raised by the annual garden tour, plant sale and Canada Blooms bus trip. Last year the Club celebrated its 20th anniversary and, as part of the celebrations, published a history of the Club’s first two decades titled Earth on Their Hands. Other 20th anniversary celebratory events included a Garden Symposium and flower show, both open to the public and attracting rave reviews.
